Casing Guide
Fresh, raw, or frozen, ground beef and ground pork chubs need a casing that holds its shape and protects the product from stuffing to the point of use. This guide explains how chub casing film works and how to choose the format and diameter.
For fresh, raw, or frozen ground beef and ground pork chubs, the best choice is multilayer chub casing film. It is built for raw and frozen ground meat, holds its shape in the freezer, protects the product from the outside environment, and stays gripped to the meat from stuffing through fresh sale, frozen storage, and thaw.
Chub film is available in diameters from 30 mm to 160 mm, in shirred sticks, clipped cut pieces, and reels. Use our Chub Casing Calculator to find the right diameter for your target weight.
Raw ground meat needs a casing that does more than hold a shape. It has to protect the product, stay tight on the surface, and survive the cold chain. Our chub casing film is a multilayer PA/PE laminate, designed for exactly that job.
💡 The film stays on the product through fresh sale, frozen storage, and thaw. It is not designed to be peeled away early.

Choose the format that fits how your line runs:
Standard nominal diameters run from 30 mm (1.18 in) to 160 mm (6.3 in). Choose the diameter by the weight and length of the finished chub. The Chub Casing Calculator does the math for you, and our specialists can confirm your choice through a free sizing consultation.
Chub film can be custom printed with your logo, product name, barcodes, USDA mark of inspection for inspected establishments, net weight, ingredients, nutrition information, allergen statements, lot codes, and handling instructions such as "Keep Frozen". We can also print "Not For Sale" wording for wild game and personal use products. Printed casings have minimum quantities and longer lead times, so call to discuss your project.
